While it offers significant economic and energy security benefits, the process has raised environmental and social concerns. Issues such as groundwater contamination risks, methane emissions, induced seismicity (small earthquakes), and high water consumption are central to debates surrounding shale gas fracking.


To address these challenges, the industry is adopting eco-friendly fracking fluids, advanced water recycling technologies, and methane capture systems to reduce environmental impact. As the world transitions toward cleaner energy, shale gas fracking is likely to remain a bridge fuel—supporting energy needs while renewable capacity continues to expand.
